What should I wear to my first class, or if I am interested?

Your first class you can arrive with a t-shirt, and athletic shorts/pants. Please be recently bathed, nails cut, and hair tied back or short.

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or BJJ, is an art that traces it roots back to feudal Japan. In Japan, the warrior class in the tier system called samurai systematized various martial ways. Jiu-Jitsu was born from this warrior heritage and was taught to the Gracie family in Brazil in the 20th century. The Gracie’s perfected the Jiu-Jitsu system that used joint locks, strangles, and immobilization and opened academies. The art received wide attention due to the accomplishments of Gracie family members in the early Ultimate Fighting Championships when faced against other styles of martial arts.

How long are the classes?

Classes are typically an hour.

What if I am going to be late to class?

We understand that life happens and want you to join in even if you are late. Promptly get dressed and join in.

Can I attend class if I am sick?

Keep everyone safe and stay home if your feeling under the weather.

Is BJJ Safe?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a physical sport with grabbing, pressure, and movement. Team mates looks out for their peers, and your safety begins with you. If something feels odd or off or a submission is tight — tap. There is no ego, bragging, or shaming. Everyone on the mats is there to learn.

What is the belt system?

The belt system in BJJ is broken down in 5 categories. White, Blue, Purple, Brown, and Black. At Titan we have children belt colors, and also award stripes to acknowledge the progress of our team mates.

How long would it take me to get a black belt?

Getting a black belt is a long journey, and it is common for it to take 10 years for a practitioner to reach the rank of black belt.

Can I train just No-Gi and get promoted?

To be considered for promotion you will have to develop skills in both the gi and in No-gi.

Should I wash my uniform, gear, and bag?

Yes, everything you wear should be washed as soon as possible after training and dried. Wash everything from your knee pads, belt, to your spats.

Can I wear gear that has a different academy or affiliation, or has designs?

Absolutely, the only requirement is that it is clean and ready to use.

Do I have to compete?

There is no requirements, and will not affect your eligibility to progress. Every student has different goals. The only thing we ask if you do not compete is to help cheer and support our teammates when they compete.

Does Titan allow drop ins?

Yes, we welcome students looking to drop in.

How many classes can I attend?

With a monthly membership you can train as often as your time allows
